OMERS Ventures has opened a new Silicon Valley office and has hired VC vetran Michael Yang to lead.
The new office will be located in the Bay Area and support OMERS Ventures’ existing team headquartered in Toronto. Yan will be joined by Toronto-based principle Michelle Killoran to support the establishment of the new office.
Yang joins from corporate venture arm of Comcast/NBCUniversal, Comcast ventures. he has also held roles at Atlas Venture as well as big tech companies like Yahoo! and AOL.
Yang is focused on early-stage start-ups involved in e-commerce and emerging technologies such as healthtech, IoT, and AR/VR. He previously oversaw the exits of August to Assa Abloy, Automatic to SiriusXM, BodyMedia to Jawbone and Healthline to Summit Partners.

OMERS Ventures is the venture capital investment arm of the $95bn-mananging Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System in Canada.
