Brait acquires Premier Foods for $218m

Brait Private Equity, the private equity arm of South African investment bank Brait, has acquired consumer goods company Premier Foods from investment group FABCOS (Foundation for African Business and Consumer Services), for R1.5bn ($218m). Management will also be taking a stake in the business. -
Ethos-led consortium to acquire South African gaming company Gold Reef

An investor consortium led by South African private equity firm Ethos Private Equity is planning to acquire the entire issued and to be issued share capital of South African gaming and entertainment company Gold Reef Resorts. If successful, this will be one of the largest private equity-led transactions in South Africa to date. The consortium is offering ZAR34 a share, representing an estimated enterprise value of ZAR11.4bn (approximately $1.57bn). -

The commitments include $40m to the Canada Investment Fund for Africa, $50m to the Actis Africa Empowerment Fund to invest in black empowered businesses in South Africa, $15m to the Emerging Markets Partnerships' second Africa fund aimed at larger businesses, and $3m to Grofin, a fund sponsored by the Shell Foundation and endorsed by Tony Blair in his capacity as chairman of the Commission for Africa. -
Private equity consortium buys two divisions from South Africa's Delta Electrical

Bridgepoint sells Western Wines stake

UK private equity firm Bridgepoint has sold its stake in Western Wines, owner of the South African Kumala wine brand, to Canada's Vincor International as part of a £135m transaction. The sale represents Bridgepoint's first exit from its E2bn Bridgepoint Europe II fund that closed in May 2002. -
Southern African Intellectual Property Fund secures R104m
