Chinese online advertising network AdChina has completed its Series B round of venture financing led by Richmond Management, along with co-investors GSR Ventures and News Corporation. The financing will enable AdChina to grow its staff and invest in several new technology and commercial initiatives planned for 2009-10, the company said.

African private equity firm Kingdom Zephyr Africa Management takes strategic stake in South African power infrastructure business PDF Print E-mail

Kingdom Zephyr Africa Management, a pan-African private equity firm, has invested $20m in South African power infrastructure company Buildworks. The investment was made through Kingdom Zephyr’s second private equity fund, Pan-African Investment Partners II, and represents a strategic stake of 30 per cent, with the option to increase to 35 per cent.

An investor consortium led by South African private equity firm Ethos Private Equity is planning to acquire the entire issued and to be issued share capital of South African gaming and entertainment company Gold Reef Resorts. If successful, this will be one of the largest private equity-led transactions in South Africa to date. The consortium is offering ZAR34 a share, representing an estimated enterprise value of ZAR11.4bn (approximately $1.57bn).

The commitments include $40m to the Canada Investment Fund for Africa, $50m to the Actis Africa Empowerment Fund to invest in black empowered businesses in South Africa, $15m to the Emerging Markets Partnerships' second Africa fund aimed at larger businesses, and $3m to Grofin, a fund sponsored by the Shell Foundation and endorsed by Tony Blair in his capacity as chairman of the Commission for Africa.

UK private equity firm Bridgepoint has sold its stake in Western Wines, owner of the South African Kumala wine brand, to Canada's Vincor International as part of a £135m transaction.
