InsurTech VC joins FinTech Investor Forum

Where there’s a big, lucrative space that has barely changed in centuries, there’s a big opportunity for investment – and the insurance industry is no exception.

Soaring insurtech funding is disrupting every aspect of the industry, from user experience and customer services to the data crunching at the back end. VCs are piling in at a greater pace than ever – but they’re not alone.

Many large incumbent players are themselves becoming important investors in young companies – perhaps having learnt from the relatively slow responses of other financial institutions to the rise of fintech disruptors.

The likes of AXA, Alliance and MetLife all operate active venture capital funds, which alongside the growing interest from traditional VCs means the space is awash with cash.

A recent report from Accenture found that investment in insuretch grew from $800m in 2014 to $2.6bn last year.

This is creating highly-valued companies such as New York health disruptor Oscar, and last week saw Europe’s largest InsurTech deal to date with FinanceFox scooping up a $28m VC round.

Discussing the insurtech landscape from an investor perspective, Talis Capital’s co-founder and managing director Vasile Foca is the latest speaker to join the FinTech Investor Forum.

He joins the likes of Balderton Capital partner Rob Moffat and Orange Growth Capital CEO and founder Radboud Vlaar in discussing where the best opportunities lie in the rapidly-evolving space and what expertise investors need to thrive.

Founding Talis Capital in September 2011, Vasile has been active in building and investing in companies for more than 16 years.

He currently sits on the boards of NavMii, ShareThe, IWOCA and is an observer at FuelQuest, WeDemand and Cygnet Agroholding.

He is also co-founder of INTRESCO, one of the largest private ship owners in Eastern Europe, Ukraine Capital Partners and Finch Investments.

Vasile holds an MBA degree from London Business School and speaks Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish.

Taking place in London on November 24th, this exclusive event is limited to just 300 tickets. If you want to gain insights and connect with leading investors and startup CEO from across the fintech landscape please contact Aaron Sohdi at asohdi@altassets.net.
