Berlin startup builder joins FinTech Investor Forum

London likes to think of itself as the fintech capital of Europe, with its traditional banking sector churning out talent and its well established VC networks.

In the wake of the UK’s vote to leave the EU, however, Berlin is making a fresh claim to be crowned as Europe’s fintech hub.

German investors are luring fintech entrepreneurs away from London with the promise of cheaper business costs and higher standards of living.

The quarter’s three biggest European tech deals all went to German fintech startups, as Hamburg lender raising Finanzcheck raised $46m, challenger bank N26 took $40m and payments provider AEVI grabbed $34m.

Berlin-based company builder and investor FinLeap is reaping the benefits of Germany’s thriving fintech scene, and in June landed $21m to build and back startups startups in the space.
